  • About The Company

MANTEC is a private, economic development non-profit 501(c)(3) with a mission to help small and mid-sized manufacturers in South Central Pennsylvania remain competitive and grow within regional, national, and global economies. We provide business advisement services, training and events, and student educational programs to ensure the future of this critical sector.

    Opportunity Overview

WSCM is a fun, hands-on career exploration program for 7th & 8th graders that:

    1. Exposes students to a modern manufacturing environment and the wide variety of well-paying jobs that are available (from entry level production to skilled trades, operations, engineering, management and beyond)
    2. Develops students’ ability to work together as a team through an immersive experience that involves videography, editing, and marketing
    3. Engages the business community in workforce development initiatives designed to recruit future workers in critical industries.

WSCM provides curriculum aligned with PA State Standards, all equipment and supplies, as well as Act 48 credits for teachers via ongoing training and support. Students visit a local manufacturer and interview a variety of employees, then create a two-minute video to answer the question “what’s so cool about manufacturing?” based on their experience. Teams are celebrated and recognized at a South Central PA Regional contest, and some of those winners advance to the state championship in Harrisburg!

Teams are formed in September, filming occurs before the winter break, the Regional Contest is held in March, and the State Championship is in May.
